March 19, 2019
Wow, it is the "19th" already, and almost through March. Oh, and I am not in NYC, or on a train to NYC, as I have been the past 2 months on this very date. In fact, I am in between my 2 trips to California. Last week, I was in my "1st Favorite Playground" next to New York - Santa Monica - and, next week, I will be spending six days in beautiful Palm Springs. I have never been, and I hear it is FANTASTIC! Don't worry, my social media will be sharing all of it with you. I will be attending the Altitude Summit which is one of the "biggest conferences and community of influencers & entrepreneurs in creative fields." I am really excited, and a little nervous, but this is, exactly, what needs to be done to get to the next level!
A big push in 2019 for the Fit4Janine brand is to attend as many conferences, and professional events, as possible, and to collaborate with other influencers in the field to leverage a bigger audience & following. Plus, I love to travel, so it is a great way to see new places and, more importantly, meet NEW PEOPLE. Oh, and you gotta love 80+ degree weather when it is still chilly here in Baltimore!
And I think this is where I will start with today's post...
Reason #10: "To Travel is to Live...And To NOT Compare Myself to a Stranger on Instagram!"
Okay, the 2nd part of the title I saw posted on someone else's Instagram, and I could not help but incorporate. Let's face it - it is so true.
I wrote a (fairly recent) blog post with the very title of "To Travel Is to Live," and I kept coming back to this when I was thinking about what I was going to write today. When "Fit4Janine" was first established, I was slowly pulling myself out of the "I cannot believe I am divorced" slump. I was so sad, and just felt that, moving forward, I would have this so called "Scarlet Letter." Through all of the hurt, pain, and, come to find out, cheating that I endured, there was one thing that I kept being told, and one thing that I kept saying to myself - "this is your 2nd chance to live the life that you have always wanted."
Welcome Fit4Janine to the world. While the, actual, take on the title is everything "FIT" for me outside of the fitness realm, I was, finally, going to have the outlet to create a brand that represented everything about ME, on my own terms, and not having to answer to anyone else.
And, this included, putting myself back out in front of the world. Side Note: While I am still super critical and vain of myself in pictures and videos, I am loving every minute of it!
If you had asked me 10 years ago if this is where I would be I, of course, would have said no way. Really, is that even fair to ask? I mean, life can change in a matter of minutes, yet alone 10 years. For me, though, these last 2 years of travel have really been a game changer in my life. Yes, it has come with a HUGE price tag, some frivolous spending, taking home a minimal paycheck (if any at times), and not saving what some may think "I should."
But, at the end of the day, while the struggle is real, it does not matter.
Don't get me wrong, I want to have financial stability (and I know that will happen, just a matter of time) but I am a firm believer that you have to spend money to make money, especially when you are in a saturated market such as the blogging and influencing world. I struggle with comparing myself to others on social media and wondering "when is it going to happen for me. They seem to have it made."
The bigger picture, though, is not necessarily what they have built right now (I mean, that is fantastic) but where they have been and what steps they took to get to this phase in their career.
So, while the cost of this conference (attendance, flight, hotel, meals, etc.) is equivalent to what some individuals may net (or even gross) in one month - I know, I am freaking expensive and zero fucks given about that - what I will gain from it does not even compare, even if it means another month without a decent paycheck.
You just never know who that one person could be that will be the door opener to your career...or maybe that cute guy who wants to buy you a drink at the lobby bar? Oh, and for those who have asked, still single.
