Happy Thursday YOU! Hope your week has been great, and looking a little different from last week too! I thought it would be fun to share with you a piece I recently wrote for a local neighborhood magazine that gives some insight as to what it means to be Influencer... at least, in the Janine Serio world!
Plus, on the heels of what I shared last week in response to seeing claims on social media that "being an Influencer/blogger is EASY (and not an ACTUAL job)," this may give a little more insight! And, NO, I am not trying to prove a point by any means!
While there are many different definitions as to what it means to be an “Influencer,” it can be summed up in 3 words – knowledgeable, trustworthy, and authentic. These were the very words greatly instilled in me during my college prep days at Maryvale Preparatory School in Brooklandville, MD, and ones that would be the foundation for my future career. This “trifecta” is KEY in establishing credibility and reputation in your area of expertise, regardless of the size of your audience.
Born and raised in the Baltimore area, my daily objectives as a social media Influencer are to promote and support businesses, brands, and products that align with the “Janine Serio” mission – where lifestyle creates an experience. Experiences that cultivate a love of food, fashion, and travel, all while emphasizing the importance of living your best life.
My philosophy on being an Influencer goes beyond simply posting a picture on Instagram or Facebook. It is about engaging with your audience and building trust. Each of my posts tells a story; a story that shares the correlation between what is happening in my life and how it pertains to what I am showcasing and promoting. When I launched my brand in 2018, there was one main goal that I promised myself – I wanted to be relatable, vulnerable, and ME. I want to be the same person that you follow on social media, that you meet out at Citron on a Friday night, or picking out my latest cocktail dress from Raina Dawn.
Building a brand and a community of followers is just one piece of the puzzle. As my parents deeply rooted in my younger sister & I, be open, be authentic, and, most importantly, do what you love!
Beyond my role of daughter, sister, friend, Influencer, etc., I, also, co-own a Health & Wellness company in the Baltimore, D.C., and Virginia area called 2 Health Nuts. To say fitness and nutrition are at my core may be a bit of an understatement. I hold of Bachelor's of Science in Exercise Science, and have been in the industry for the past 14 years. Additionally, I am a certified personal trainer, health coach, & nutrition consultant, and may have run my fair share of half & full marathons in my day.
Yes, I wear many hats - chic ones of course - but I would not change it for the world!
