"I like to see where my money is; hanging in my closet!"
Isn't that the truth! It, for sure, is not in my wallet or bank account! Btw, can you name that television show I just quoted?! ;)
Happy Monday Loves...and October 1st! Cheers to pumpkins, mums, and the start of the Holiday season! FINALLY, a Monday that is filled with sunshine and cooler temps! This was the 1st weekend in Baltimore in the last I don't know how many weeks that was nothing but blue skies, sunshine, and, actually, feeling like the last weekend in September. Low 70's, with a breeze, is my kind of weather! And, totally, preparing me for the end of the week!
Which brings me to THIS - t-minus 4 days until I leave for sunny (yes, the weather is showing sun the entire time I am there) California; when I say I am SO EXCITED, I really am, SO EXCITED! Not only am I going to my happy place BUT my boyfriend is going with me as well. This is the 1st time we have not seen each other in over 3 weeks. While it has gone fast, it has been long too! It just so happens he needed to connect with clients in both Los Angeles AND San Francisco at some point in the Fall, so when I mentioned I would be in Santa Monica the 2nd week of October, it seemed like the perfect FIT. A few days there, a few days in San Francisco, and then a few days in Carmel should make for an awesome getaway and, yes, there will be work happening too.
Speaking of Carmel, I would love some recommendations! Everyone says it is just FABULOUS! I look forward to playing tour guide in Santa Monica - oh, yes, I will have to change course a bit - and he is looking forward to showing me around San Francisco, a place he called home for a couple years before moving to NYC. I will, for sure, be keeping you posted HERE on my blog, on Facebook, Instagram & Instastories! FYI: On the blog note, the kinks have, almost, been worked out so you will see more content here in the coming weeks - promise! So much to share with you!
So, I did want to share with you what I did this weekend, and what is making me feel like a REAL lifestyle blogger - ha! Over the last week, I have been toying with the idea of going through my closet. In case you do not already know (but you will come to find out), I am religious about going through my clothes every few months. I pull out what I wear, don't wear, want to keep for another season, etc. What I don't want anymore, I will let my sister have 1st dibs, then take to a local consignment shop, or, ultimately, donate. After a conversation last weekend with my photographer from L.A., who knows a pretty decent amount about the blogging world, she kept telling me this - "Janine, SELL YOUR CLOTHES! Keep a few essentials but sell them, especially if you are not being given them by the company/designer to promote." And while I am not at the point for giving/loaning clothes just yet, it was making sense what she was saying.
"Use the money to repurpose your wardrobe. Even though 'Fashion' is not solely what your blog is about, you never know!"
So, this is exactly what I did. I had my Mom sit on my bed, both of us with cocktails in hand, and we went through my ENTIRE closet. And the #1 thing I kept saying to my Mom was to BE HONEST. Yay to keep, nay to sell, or "what were you thinking" - LOL! Just joking!
While I am not sure how long it, actually, took - we left the shoes and the jackets alone - I have about 50 items ready (a handful with tags still on) for my sister to go through, and then put online via a site called Poshmark. Apparently, a lot of bloggers post their clothes on this platform. I have done in the past, with little success, but I think my clothing has come a long way from just my South Moon Under days! Ha! From Alice and Olivia, Free People, Nordstrom and Bloomingdales, to (yes) South Moon Under, J.Crew, Anthropologie, Zara, etc. If you are interested to take a peek at my store front when it is all up and running, take a peek HERE.
The next task is seeing what, exactly, are the latest and greatest fashion trends on the market today. Sure, I keep my finger on the pulse but I still feel like I am pulling myself out of a 2 month whirlwind that I have not gotten out of yet. It's coming though; I can feel it! I mean, going through my closet, getting my "Editorial Calendar" up and running for "Fit4Janine," and getting some strategic plans in place for whom I want to partner with in the near future seems like a great 1st step. Plus, I am, definitely, much harder on myself when it comes to all of this. I have so many great ideas, yet I feel I am going in 20 different (organized) directions...and I want it to happen a LOT quicker too!
Well, what have I seen trending in stores so far? GOLD, MUSTARD YELLOW, oversized sweaters/cardigans, dark, paisley prints, and heavy knits! Blouses are all the rage, and bohemian-inspired styles and fabrics seem to be in every store window! I am still doing market research, something I do quite well (LOL), so I will keep you in the know!
Have a fabulous week! Cheers to taking another huge leap in the lifestyle blogging world...selling my clothes!
