What's up Wednesday? I feel like I was just sitting here, LAST WEEK, writing this post. And, while it makes me sad that this is the last week of my "Rose All Day" series, that just means I have a brand spankin' new one to roll out NEXT WEEK. Cheers to that, right? And, this wine may, actually, have nothing to do with "Rose" too.
I am not even going to share with you what time I am writing this on the East Coast; it is stupid early BUT I am hoping to get in a workout before the day's activities get underway.
Back to the wine! To start, I have been wanting to check out one of Baltimore's best Italian restaurants "cellar raid" for awhile now. With a wine list of over 600 labels, spanning Northern, Central, and Southern Italy, Tuesday nights you can get ANY bottle - yes, ANY bottle - for 50% off. It is an unbelievable way to try some amazing wines that you may shy away from given the price point.
Although I had every intent of trying out a Rose, there was nothing striking my fancy! Hence, I found myself asking the sommelier - "okay, what do you recommend if you are someone who likes heavier reds such as a big, bold cabernet or blend? Mind you, I don't drink wine based on the weather either; I think it was pretty warm that day too! Ha!
All I have to say is, what was chosen, was pretty fabulous (I would SO get it again), and super "Fit4Janine." And I do apologize it is not a Rose!
Wine: Tenuta di Arceno Valadorna 2011 (Bordeaux Red Blend from Tuscany, Italy)
Wine Notes: "Accented by dark plum aromas and flavors which are displayed in a ripe and juicy profile. Notes of morello cherries, fleshy mission figs and hints of brown sugar are framed with earthy impressions of iron and graphite. This wine is juicy and plush, somewhat modern (from the new French oak) and mouth filling whilst showcasing a soft yet bright lingering finish. Valadorna is a blend of 60% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc" (www.wine.com)
Where I Tried: Cinghiale in Baltimore's Harbor East
